Wellington Regional Council- Wainuiomata Water Treatment Plant

Commissioned in 1994, the Wainuiomata water treatment plant provides up to 60 million litres of high-quality drinking water daily to the wider Wellington region. From multiple water sources this small footprint dissolved air flotation (DAF) process is designed to operate unattended if required so back up of the process control instrumentation and systems is important.

Originally engaged to specify and provide the complete electrical engineering, process instrumentation and control systems designs for the process contractor (PWT New Zealand), Horizon Technology ultimately supplied a complete PLC and SCADA system as well.

  • Supply of a fully redundant pair of Texas Instruments Process 565 controllers operating in a true hot-standby configuration.
  • Supply of a site-wide Citect SCADA system for process indication, control, alarming, trending and data collection.
  • Miri radio telemetry link to the Orongorongo headworks
  • Supply of Ci Technologies Plant-2-Business data warehousing and distribution software to link Citect real-time plant data into the WRC information network.
